How Gen Z Is Bringing Classical Music Back

Kailesh, along with his partner, Demi Louise, sat down with Triple J Hack, to chat about their involvement in classical music recently.

Speaking of his experiences in writing for orchestra in the concert sphere, Kailesh shared how the genre of classical music is thoroughly enjoyed by Gen Z. The biggest issue facing the proliferation of classical music currently, however, is accessibility.

Across TikTok and Instagram, classical music often features in trending audio and as part of overall trends. Fresh, new ensembles and organisations, such as the Sydney Concert Orchestra gain traction quickly with younger generations - both online and in the concert hall. It shows that the stereotyping of classical music as an elitist genre of yesteryear is not at all true. Key to its continuation is the promotion of new music in the concert hall, integrating its rich history with an accessible and appealing personality so that no person is excluded from enjoying it.

Kailesh attributes his pursuit of music to classical greats like Rachmaninoff and Debussy, so this topic remains close to him.
